California Here We Come

Exactly two weeks ago, I was supposed to be on my way to Sacramento to serve with AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. With the government shutdown, our departure was postponed until tomorrow. So, tomorrow I will be waking up at 3:30am to head to the airport and start my journey to Sacramento.

Last year when I served in Vinton with FEMA Corps, I didn’t receive my team (Pine 4)until about a week in. This year with Sacramento, I got a call from my Team Leader (TL) saying that they have already arranged teams. I am on Silver 7, a team of ten. In Sacramento, there are 4 Units (Gold, Green, Silver, and Blue) and 7 teams for each Unit. So, that sounds like I might have a bigger class than last year in Sacramento. I’m so excited about meeting my new team, I had to stop myself from drilling my new TL for information on Silver 7. She did say that it seemed most of my team is meat eaters, which will be an interesting switch from my team last year which had almost half vegetarian/vegan and the other half was generally too lazy to cook meat (or maybe that was just me).

As usual, I will try and update this blog regularly, but feel free to call or send a letter if I haven’t posted in a while. 🙂
